The Bedlam Series has its roots in multiple varsity sports. Because games between OSU and OU often determine the conference championship, these events are always full of high-stakes energy and intensity. The Bedlam began between the two schools' wrestling programs, named after the wild crowds that would attend the matches. It evolved into a title for all the games OSU and OU would play against each other, most notably football.
The first Bedlam football game was the scene of one of those unforgettable football miracles that feel more like legend than history. It was a brisk and windy day in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and when the punter lost the ball, it was pushed behind him by a gale-force wind. OU should not only realize that they are a great team, they should want to play like a great football team and they need to enjoy beating other teams into the ground.
They should know that throwing their OU jock on the field each week is not enough to win every game against teams who would like nothing better than to say the are the ones who knocked OU off of their lofty perch. Hard to argue against your thesis. Plus it helps that the planets are lining up for them in terms of turnovers, lucky bounces, and no injuries to their main players. Imagine season ending injuries to their top running back and receiver and then see if they can win every game or be so excited with every play.
As far as Bedlam goes if we tackle and defend like TT is doing today in bedlam than we will get embrassed on a national stage to a level not seen since the Fiesta bowl loss to Boise State. To agree with your position if OU thinks they can just show up in stoolwater and win it will be a long game. For me I will tell at the coin toss if we win the toss and do not defer. After TT I don't think anyone on our team thinks we can "just show up" and win.
But we have a lot more experience and a better D if we just manage the game correctly. Weeden doesn't work well under pressure so we have to keep hitting him, and our O must not turn the ball over. They are in uncharted territory, and will be trying to defend a ranking and possible NC invite. The better OsU plays, the more motivated our squad will be to win this game.
OsU appears to be having fun right now, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they deal with the pressure of a "play-in" game for the national championship. I believe that pressure and our experience will be the difference. Our kids will feed off the energy of their crowd as they've done all year in big road games.
I would have said it was a coin toss if we hadn't lost Whaley and Broyles. Now that their gone it goes in to bad guys favor big time. Our D is going to have to step up like we've seen only once this year OSU is by far the most explosive team we have faced this year. Their D is decent and pretty good at times. They looked much much better on D against tech than we did.. Now, it really all depend which OU hits the smelly ground in Stillwater.
If we've lost only one game with our D getting better over the last couple I think we have a decent chance. Now let's go finish off our last couple games With this team you never know who's going to give us a tough match My hope is neither baylor or isu can get anything going against us Of course OSU is a good team, but it will be interesting to see if OSU can handle the pressure of playing a game for a conference championship and a shot at the national championship.
Forget winning big games, OSU has no history of even playing games with those stakes. Their last conference championship was a co-championship in in the Big 8. Teams have great years when the stars aline for them. But, the final member, and the final authorizing authority over both boards is the Governor. The Governor has final veto. The only control the legislature has is funding and budget approvals as submitted by the Governor from the Board of Regents.
Molly Boren also went to school at OSU. Those are some tight family ties…. Cookie banner We use cookies and other tracking technologies to improve your browsing experience on our site, show personalized content and targeted ads, analyze site traffic, and understand where our audiences come from.
